Research Topic
The lab is particularly interested in bornaviruses, which can cause fatal disease in humans. Bornaviruses (BDVs) are non-cytolytic RNA viruses that cause persistent infections and exhibit strong neurotropism in the host. Since there are currently no specific treatment options, we are pursuing a translational research approach to (i) gain new insights into the viral life cycle using cutting-edge technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 screening approaches, (ii) develop new molecular tools based on these insights that may contribute to future treatment options, and (iii) study the effect of such antiviral treatments on virus-infected cells.
