Brain Reorganisation
Group Leader: Prof. Cornelius Weiller, MD
One main topic of neurological research in the area of imaging is studying loss and restitution of structure and function of the lesioned brain. In the last decade, extensive research on reorganisation of the language and motor system after stroke has been conducted. Our research strategy aims at analysing the dynamics of reorganisation from a multilevel and interdisciplinary perspective, combining various fields of expertise, such as linguistics, computer science, medicine and physics. In longitudinal fMRI studies the language, motor and attention systems are studied from the acute throughout the chronic phase of stroke. Furthermore, new therapies for the improvement of language- and motor-related function at the behavioural level are being evaluated using fMRI technology.
