SELMA-Study
Self-management for patients on ventricular assist device supportThis page introduces the SELMA study. SELMA stands for Improved Self-Management for Patients on Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Support. This research program is run by an interprofessional team in cooperation with leading heart centres.
Project description
The aim of the SELMA project is for develop an evidence-based, interprofessional curriculum for self-management in people with ventricular assistive devices and to integrate and evaluate this curriculum in the daily care of these people. Smartphone based apps give the patients additional support with their self-management ability. The study works on the principle that improved self-management among patients can reduce the incidence of VAD-specific complications and inpatient admissions. These two improvements can positively influence quality of life and sink costs.
Should the study prove successful, the curriculum and App will be available for distribution to all heart centres and hospitals in Germany. Distribution could occur via the relevant professional specialty interest groups, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and patient support groups.
