Degree Programmes and Teaching
The Bachelor of Science (Nursing Science) has been offered since the winter semester of 2010/2011 within the University of Freiburg Faculty of Medicine as an integrated course alongside the vocational nursing preparation programme. The students attain two qualifications in six semesters: the academic qualification, Bachelor of Science, and the vocational qualification to practice as a general or paediatric nurse. The graduates are optimally prepared for the future challenges within the healthcare sector. They work directly with patients and relatives as well as in clinical and research projects.
The Master of Science (Nursing Science) programme is offered as a collaboration with the University Hospital Freiburg and in cooperation with the Catholic University, Freiburg. During the four-semester course, students attain further competence in clinical practice and research. In addition, they study healthcare in its organisational and societal context and develop a knowledge of leadership skills. Many diverse specialty areas are open to Master in Nursing Research programme graduates. They are able to integrate their advanced academic qualification into their clinical specialty, in research and in educational roles and, in doing so, contribute to improvement in nursing care.
In the winter semester of 2021/22, the first primary qualification degree, Bachelor of Science (Midwifery Science) began at the University of Freiburg in cooperation with the University Hospital. The students obtain a evidence-based, high quality practical and theoretical education at university level. Midwifery practice environments and a specialist simulation centre contribute to the educational program. The study programme leads to an academic qualification (Bachelor of Science) and to statutory recognition as a midwife.
