Our interest is an understanding of host defence to infections, in particular on a molecular level. We are analysing the recognition of infectious agents by human cells, as well as the response that the cells give to the infection. Besides the actually infected cells we also investigate responding immune cells, especially phagocytes, to infectious agents. We are using a number of models of infection; a particular focus is the infection with Chlamydia, an important human pathogen. Here we try to answer the questions of how Chlamydia is able to establish itself and grow inside a human cell, and how the immune response copes with the infection.
