Welcome to the Blood Donation Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Everyone can help to secure the medical and emergency care by donating blood on a regular basis. Given the fact that there is still no possibility to manufacture blood artificially, the willingness of numerous volonteers to help others by donating blood is of vital importance.

For your own safety it is legally necessary to understand and speak German at a reasonable level (so as to be able to e.g. fill in the donor questionnaire). Please refer to the current regulations concerning SARS-CoV-2 in German.

Information for new donors

People aged between 18 and 72 years are allowed to donate blood. New donors aged above 64 and people over 72 years of age need to get an individual assessment by one of our physicians prior to blood donation.

To secure the high quality of safety standards, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire. As a new donor you will receive further information that explains the blood donation process in detail. Therefore we kindly ask you to arrive at least half an hour before the closing time of the Blood Donation Center. If you follow the link 'Information' you will find the questionnaire (in German) as well as additional documents (in German) to inform you about the procedure of blood donation.

If you decide to donate blood, please remember to bring your blood donor pass (if available), vaccination record as well as your official ID card.
