Department of Cardiovascular Surgery
Each year our experienced doctors perform approximately 4650 surgical interventions on patients with cardiovascular diseases. The youngest are only a few hours old and were born with a congenital heart defect. We operate on up to 200 children’s hearts per year. Around 70 of our patients with terminal cardiac insufficiency are waiting for a new heart. In 2013 we conducted 17 successful heart transplants and provided 33 patients with a cardiac support system, improving their quality of life.
We are committed to offering each and every patient individual treatment using the gentlest possible methods. For example, we employ minimally invasive techniques when conducting cardiac valve operations and endovascular stent-graft implantations in patients with aortic aneurysms. We treat our patients on the basis of the latest scientific findings. In addition, we offer high-quality post-operative care at our surgical intensive care units, which are staffed by a close-knit team of surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, internists, microbiologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and specialists from many other fields.
