Katharina Domschke, MA, MD, PhD, is Full Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Freiburg, Germany. Additionally, she holds an Adjunct Professorship at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Prof. Domschke completed her studies and postgraduate education in medicine and psychology at the University of Muenster, Germany, and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, as well as at Boston University, Boston, MA, USA, and Maastricht University, The Netherlands. After her residency in psychiatry at the Universities of Bonn and Muenster, Germany, she worked as an attending physician and associate professor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Muenster, Germany. In 2012, she was appointed Full Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, where she worked as attending physician and from 2014 through 2016 as vice chair before being appointed Chair and Full Professor at the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2016.

Prof. Domschke’s clinical expertise is on diagnostics and therapy in adult psychiatry, particularly depression, anxiety disorders, stress-related disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Scientifically, applying genetic/epigenetic, imaging genetic and therapy(epi)genetic approaches she is interested in the identification of multilevel markers for the prediction, indicated prevention and personalized treatment of mental disorders. Her work is reflected by to date over 450 publications in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index of 60 (Link to Pubmed), three books (Link to Book 1, Link to Book 2) and 26 book chapters.

Prof. Domschke is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and has received the Research Award of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP), the Fellowship Award of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), the Fellowship Award of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), the Research Award of the German Society of Biological Psychiatry (DGBP), and the Research Award of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurology (DGPPN).

Prof. Domschke’s research has been funded by the EU, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF).

She is president of the ECNP Anxiety Disorders Research Network (ADRN) and vice president of the German Society of Anxiety Research (GAF), board member of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (DGPPN), fellow of ACNP and ECNP, and member of SOBP, CINP, ISPG and others.

Prof. Domschke is co-editor of „The Nervenarzt“ and serves on the editorial boards of Biological Psychiatry: Global Open Science, European Neuropsychopharmacology, The International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, Neuropsychopharmacology, Pharmacopsychiatry, Progress in Neuropsychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatry, Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology, World Journal of Biological Psychiatry as well as Frontiers in Molecular Psychiatry, and is a regular reviewer for over 50 SCI-listed international journals.
