Sebastian Littin was born in Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg, in 1983. During his high school years, he spent one year in Phoenix, AZ, as a scholar of the PPP/CBYX (Parlamentarisches Patenschaft Programm/Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange) before obtaining his German Abitur from the Technical Gymnasium Rottweil. He studied Physics from 2004 to 2011 at the KIT Karlsruhe, where he earned his Diploma in 2012. Subsequently, he obtained his doctoral degree (summa cum laude) from the Department of Physics at the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2018.

In 2011, he joined the Medical Physics department in the Department of Radiology at the University Medical Center Freiburg as a diploma student. In 2018, he became a Post-doctoral Fellow, and since 2022, he has served as the group leader of MR Technologies.

One of Dr. Littin’s research fields is MR hardware, with vast experience in MR gradient coil optimization and implementation. During his PhD project, he implemented an 84-channel matrix gradient coil (MRM_Littin_2017). Additionally, he is interested in MR hardware interactions and magnetic field safety and interactions. Dr. Littin is active member of the ISMRM and has served as a board member of the MR Engineering Study Group.

Parts of his work are currently funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation), the Carl-Zeiss Foundation and the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research).
