The Department of Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine and Neonatology at Freiburg University Hospital is offering ant of Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine and Neonatology at Freiburg University Hospital is offering in the group of Miriam Schmidts a
PhD Position in epigenetic kidney research (m/f/d)
The laboratory focusses on rare genetic disease with a special interest in monogenic kidney diseases (https://www.research-for-children.de/growth-and-genetics/.
The project is part of a DFG funded Collaborative Research Center (CRC) Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB) CRC1453 Nephrogenetics (Nephgen) (second funding period, https://www.sfb1453.uni-freiburg.de/).
Within this project, we aim to understand the role of histone modifcations for renal development and decipher molecular pathomechanisms underlying congenital anomalies of the kidneys and the urinary tract (CAKUT). This includes generation of model systems using CRISPR/Cas gene editing, transcriptomics, ChIPseq/Cut&Run and proteomics analyses as well as advanced imaging techniques.
What we offer:
This is a translational, highly collaborative project within a research consortium, also offering unique opportunities to perform highly specialised experiments in partner laboratories. Additional interesting collaborative opportunities arise from additional research consortia. The laboratory is part of such as CRC1597 Small Data, https://www.smalldata-initiative.de/), Forschergruppe FOR 5547 (Cilia dynamics, https://for5547.com/) and the DFG Excellence Initiative funded Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS) (https://www.cibss.uni-freiburg.de/de/). The Speman graduate school for biology and medicine (SGBM, https://www.sgbm.uni-freiburg.de/welcome-to-sgbm) further offers an interdisciplinary exchange forum as well as a structured PhD curriculum with a number of skills courses.
Candidate Profile:
- MSc in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or molecular medicine
- Experience in functional or genetic nephrology and/or epigenetics research, cell culture, standard molecular/biochemical techniques and/or in-vivo work is highly desirable
- a strong interest in translational research in the fields of genetics, developmental and cell biology.
The position is to be filled part-time (65 %) for a limited period of 48 months. Salary group E 13 V-L
