ZTZ – Center for Translational Cell Research
Cross-center translational research consolidated under a single roofSince 2016, the most important research activities in the fields of immunological research (CCI) and cancer research (CCCF) have been consolidated under a single roof at the Center for Translational Cell Research (ZTZ). With its shared core facilities, the research building ensures close collaboration between the research foci and research groups. In this way, Freiburg is making an important contribution to signaling and immune modulation in cancer therapy as well as to the elucidation of infectiological and epidemiological processes and also serves as a platform for clinical trials.
The interdisciplinary research program at the ZTZ has the following foci:
- Genetics, epigenetics, and transcriptional regulation,
- Signaling and cell differentiation,
- Cell migration, adhesion, and microdissemination,
- Cell and gene therapy.
The scientists at the ZTZ are involved in many translational research consortia, such as clusters of excellence, collaborative research centers, research units, clinical trials, and the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK).
Furthermore, CCI and CCCF participate in several interdisciplinary training programs in the life sciences – the "Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM)" and the degree program “Molecular Medicine” – as well as in the establishment of research groups in molecular epidemiology.
