The research group of Jun. Prof. Natalie Köhler, PhD, Department of Internal Medicine I (Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation), University Medical Centre Freiburg and Centre For Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS), University of Freiburg, is currently looking for a highly motivated

PhD Student in the field of tumor immunology and T cell based immunotherapies (m/f/d)

Our laboratory focusses on the identification of novel targets for immunotherapies in hematological malignancies, in particular key regulators of immune checkpoint molecules. Furthermore, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms of and find novel therapeutic options for cancer immunotherapy-related adverse events. To this aim, we use classical genetic mouse models and T cell characterization approaches as well as novel NGS-based technologies, in particular single-cell RNA and immune receptor sequencing with an in-lab 10X Genomics system. The offered PhD project will focus on the elucidation of the immune and molecular mechanisms driving graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

We offer you:

  • an enjoyable and collaborative laboratory atmosphere with intensive mentorship
  • the opportunity to employ a wide variety of modern methods in cell-, protein- and molecular biology
  • a motivated research group
  • a translational project with clinical relevance
  • a dynamic and highly multidisciplinary research environment
  • a doctoral position (TV-L 65%) in a 3-year research project

Your skills and qualities:

  • excellent Master’s degree in molecular medicine, immunology, molecular biology or a related field
  • experience in immunologic and cancer research
  • interest and knowledge in immunology and transplant biology
  • hands-on experience in cell culture and in vitro/ex vivo immunological assays
  • experience with in vivo models and FELASA certificate
  • experience in single cell transcriptomics and data analysis are a plus
