The research group ”Experimental Psychiatry and Psychotherapy“ at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Chair: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. K. Domschke), University of Freiburg, Germany, is seeking at the earliest opportunity a

PostDoc in Epigenetics (m/f/d)

The research group led by PD Dr. M. Schiele and Prof. Dr. Dr. K. Domschke comprises an interdisciplinary team and investigates mental disorders and their treatment by combining clinical and neurobiological research with a particular focus on epigenetics. The group runs a molecular biological laboratory fully equipped to perform versatile and rapid genotyping, DNA methylation analyses and analysis of histone acetylation and methylation. 

Your tasks:

  • Planning, establishing, performing and analyzing genetic and epigenetic experiments (e.g., analysis of DNA methylation and histone modifications, miRNA profiling, gene expression analyses, assay design, primer design)
  • Development, implementation, optimization, and application of novel methods
  • Quality control and processing of the results of the analyses, including biometric database generation
  • Scientific analysis, interpretation, and publication of research data
  • Supervision of PhD students, research assistants, and interns
  • Participation in administrative tasks within the group

Your profile:

  • completed studies in Biology, Neurobiology, Molecular Medicine, or related disciplines
  • very good doctorate degree in molecular-biological research
  • excellent knowledge of and experience with the application, analysis, and processing of epigenetic methods, particularly in the analysis of DNA methylation and histone modifications
  • excellent IT and statistical skills
  • relevant track record of peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals.
  • very good written and spoken English language skills
  • high motivation, capacity for teamwork, and sense of responsibility
The position is initially limited to 3 years with the possibility of extension, pending positive evaluation.
