Clinic for Internal Medicine II, University Medical Center Freiburg, is looking for a
PhD student (m/f/d)
We focus on translational research in the field of immune responses against hepatitis viruses as well as SARS-CoV2 and hepatocellular carcinoma. Our results contribute to a better understanding of human immune responses with implications for therapeutic strategies.
The lab has a focus on translational immunological research. We are particularly interested in the mechanisms regulating T cells in chronic infection, cancer and autoimmune disease, with a focus on understanding T cell exhaustion. The aim of the funded project is to access antigen-specific T-cell responses linked to outcome and pathogenesis of chronic viral infections. Your work will unravel diverging mechanisms of antigen-specific CD8+ T cell adaptation and dysfunction and contribute to a better understanding of human immune responses with implications for therapeutic strategies.
We offer:
- a translational project in a clinically relevant setting with the possibility to implement your own ideas
- working in a dedicated interdisciplinary team of biologists and physicians on exciting research topics
- possible participation in a graduate program
- a unique network of excellent partners for continuous support in development of your scientific profile
- a good working atmosphere in modern laboratories with cutting-edge equipment
- buddy System for new doctoral researchers
- participation in a wide range of further training opportunities and participation in (inter)national conferences
- salaries are based on the German academic standards (TV-L E13, 65 %) with attractive employe benefits, e.g. Jobticket UKF
- an annual additional payment (Weihnachtsgeld)
- 30 days of vacation
Your work includes but is not limited to:
- autonomous processing of research tasks dealing with immune responses in chronic viral infections
- working with infectious sample material (S3** lab)
- application of state-of-the-art and cutting-edge methods of cell and molecular biology including
- high dimensional FACS and single cell transcriptome analysis
- establishing of new methods to elaborate on subsequent research questions
- presentation of results on regular lab and consortium meetings and (inter)national conferences
- supervision of students
Prerequisites:
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys translational scientific work in an interdisciplinary and international team.
- graduation (M. Sc.) in biology, molecular medicine or related subjects preferentially with focus on immunology
- strong interest in translational research and human immunology
- distinct working autonomy combined with a high capacity for teamwork
- a careful and focused working habit
- enjoy scientific work
- awareness of careful documentation
- ability to work independently and as a part of an international team
- communication skills in English
- knowledge in presentation skills
If you are interested, please submit your application in German or English (including CV, a motivation letter and contact details of two references).
